Welcome to Current Concepts in Emergency Care. 2010 marks our 31st year of excellence in medical education. Our objective is to present a program that addresses many of the controversial areas of emergency care. Sunday evening will open with an account of medical conditions in post-earthquake Haiti. We will have a review of recent literature early in the conference to open your eyes to the significant developments in 2010. New concepts in resuscitation and advances in technologies will be major themes throughout the conference. We will discuss new recommendations from the Council on Resuscitation. There will be talks on volume resuscitation without traditional IV's, the use of ultrasound in acute resuscitations, transcutaneous hemoglobin and perfusion monitoring, and therapeutic hypothermia. Current concepts in pneumonia care and thromboembolic disease will be reviewed. We will discuss the advances in the surgical management of noncardiac chest pain emergencies, such as aortic dissection, esophageal rupture, and tamponade. Wednesday evening will feature a special presentation on Dive Medicine and Marine Envenomations. On a limited basis, you will experience hands-on exposure to the use of ultrasound for vascular access and abdominal pain in our ultrasound workshop. Our legal experts will discuss the issues of healthcare reform and its impact on our practice. You will have the opportunity to discuss the management of sports trauma, methods of regional anesthesia, and new concepts in burn management. We will present ways to use technology to improve the care of cardiac patients, from new cardiac biomarkers to cardiac imaging advances. The challenging weak and dizzy patient will be reviewed in three separate lectures on septic shock, hypotension, and syncope. The final day of conference, Friday, will close with a review of LLSA articles to bring it all together. Please click the schedule for a detailed list of presentations and speakers.
